While beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, what truck aficionados consider eye-catching, may not necessarily appeal to people who don’t know much about trucks and view all large trucks as generic “Mack trucks.”

 

Such is not the case for this month’s eye-catching truck. Ian Fenberg of Findlay, Ohio owns a 2001 Western Star 4900 EX and hauls high-end boats for Hurricane Marine Transport, Inc.

 

Fenberg states that: “There hasn’t been one time that our Western Star hasn’t received a compliment when we arrive to load or unload a boat at a marina.” He goes on to say: “Many times, it is our 4900 that garners more attention than the $500,000 boat we’re hauling in! That says a lot about the truck I drive. I believe that professional appearance is important in business, but especially in the transportation segment that I am in. Nothing to me conveys a more professional appearance to my customers than my Western Star.”

 

The Western Star Company has been through various ownerships including, at one time, being part of The White Motor Company and over the years the tractors were manufactured in either Canada or the US.

 

Ian’s beautiful truck gets its power from a 475 BHP Cummins ISX mated to a 13 speed Eaton transmission with 3.90 rear ends. The cab includes a 76 inch Starlite sleeper and is equipped with Sirius satellite radio, wireless laptop and a TV/DVD system.

 

The valuable boats ride on a 1989 Gulf air-ride boat transport trailer.

 

Ian’s work takes him to 48 states transporting premium boats to both private boat owners and manufacturers.

Fenberg enjoys boating and sailing on Lake Erie, perch fishing, reading, playing ice hockey and working on his home during down time. Ian owns two dogs who like to ride in his Western Star.
