Eyes on the Road - "Driven for Vision"
Welcome to "Eyes on the Road," a fundraising initiative put together in part with The Schepens Eye Research Institute and Truck.Net. Directed by Mark Harter, "Eyes on the Road" brings eye healthcare, education, safety and research awareness to the trucking and transportation industry.

Did you know?
- 80 million people suffer from potentially blinding eye disease.
- 11,400,000 people have severe visual conditions not correctible by glasses.
- 6,400,000 new cases of eye disease occur each year.
- 1,100,000 people are legally blind.
The Schepens Eye Research Institute is making great progress in developing new treatments and cures for eye diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma and other types of retinal and optic nerve degenerations. They have made great medical breakthroughs, and many more are not far down the road.
If you would like to help support "Eyes on the Road" and The Schepens in their search for answers, make a donation, purchase an armband, a stylish Eyes on the Road ballcap, or for the ultimate, a custom 1:34 scale 1953 Kenworth Bullnose tractor-trailer. Click the links above to find out about the different ways you can help make a difference.
If you have questions about eyesight, please feel free to contact us! Rich Godfrey is the volunteer Patient Liaison at The Schepens, and is happy to answer any questions you may have. Rich can be reached by phone at: 617.912.2569 and by email at: Richard.Godfrey@schepens.harvard.edu
Keep those eyes on the road! Go Tomas!

Check Your Eyes for Macular Degeneration - Here

Amsler grid courtesy of the
Schepens Retina Associates Foundation
This is how to use the Amsler grid:
1. Wear your reading glasses
2. Cover one eye.
3. Look at the center dot of the Amsler Grid and keep your eye focused on it at all times.
4. While looking directly at the center and only the center, be sure that the lines around the center are straight.
5. If you notice an area on the grid that is distorted, please call your eye doctor.
6. Do this test for each eye separately.
If the Amsler Grid appears distorted to you, it indicates that there is a problem with your macula. However, this is not necessarily dry macular degeneration since other conditions may cause distortion of the Amsler Grid.
